Gabriela Neufeld, originally from Boone, North Carolina, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in biology with a concentration in ecology, environmental science, and evolution in 2019 and a graduate certificate in middle and secondary teaching in 2020 - both from Appalachian State University.
Currently, she teaches biology and AP biology for ninth to twelfth-grade students at South Mecklenburg High School, which is part of the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System.
“I absolutely love teaching and love science,” exclaimed Neufeld. “I feel I am in the perfect career for me!”
Impacting Education in Her Community
Neufeld is impacting education within her community by providing a safe and interactive place for students to learn.
“I am providing students with a fun and exciting science class which will help them become interested in science by making my classes lab and activity based.”

“I also teach at one of the most diverse schools in the state and being bilingual allows me to make more rigorous science classes more accessible for those who do not speak fluent English yet,” she added.
