Wilkes County Schools announced that the 2024-25 Beginning Teacher of the Year is Maria Limon-Jimenez. Limon is a 7th grade English and Language Arts teacher at Central Wilkes Middle School. The announcement was made during the Monday, Nov. 4, meeting of the Wilkes Board of Education. Limon’s principal, Mr. Lancerio stated, “Ms. Limon shows energy and enthusiasm in her instruction daily and is an asset to building community within Central Wilkes Middle School.” Limon is shown above with Wilkes Schools Superintendent Mark Byrd, and Keith Lyall of Horace Mann Insurance Company on Main Street in North Wilkesboro, who presented her a check for $250. Certificates of Accomplishments were given to the top readers in the Mountaineer Readers program, which is a partnership between the Reich College of Education and Appalachian State Athletics with the purpose of promoting and celebrating literacy in surrounding counties.
