Appalachian Educators Club Volunteers for Parkway’s Fall Festival

Members of the Appalachian Educators Club (App Ed) from Appalachian State University's Reich College of Education traveled to Parkway School in Watauga County September 23 to engage with local students in a fun way.

Sixteen App Ed members were among dozens of volunteers who helped make the school's Fall Festival a fun and safe community event for the students of Parkway School and their families.

More than 650 students in kindergarten through eighth grades attend Parkway School. Parkway also houses a Watauga County Pre-K classroom, in partnership with Lucy Brock Collaborative.

App Ed hosted a variety of carnival games for the Parkway School children, from classics like (giant) tic-tac-toe to less traditional games like "Toilet Trouble."

"The App State students were great with our Parkway students," said Fall Festival Chair Brooke Christian, a member of the school's Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) that coordinated the event.  "They were so engaged with the students and families at the carnival games. We are so grateful for their time and positive energy."

The event raised more than $10,000 for Parkway’s PTO, all of which goes directly back into the classrooms.
