Byrd Joins RCOE Staff

Dr. Daniel Byrd has joined the Reich College of Education (RCOE) as the Director of Teacher Education in the Office of the Dean.

In his role, Byrd assists in the oversight of the new teacher education professional core, the North Carolina teacher licensure process, and facilitating conversations among instructors, program directors, students and anyone else who is interested in meaningful teaching and transformative learning.

“I'm excited whenever I have the opportunity to work with educators and students just beginning their teaching careers,” noted Byrd. “Schools are the perfect places to make a positive impact on society.”

Byrd earned a B.S. degree in psychology from Auburn University and an M.Ed. and Ph.D. in social studies education from the University of Georgia.

Prior to joining the RCOE staff, Byrd held several other positions at App State, including academic advisor, adjunct professor, academic content consultant, and assistant director for the Office of Student Success.

“I've worked at App State for over nine years and really enjoy being a part of our incredible community,” said Byrd. “Given the history of our university and its role in training great teachers for over 120 years, I am honored to be a part of the Reich College of Education.”

For the past seven years, Byrd has been the primary caretaker of the App State ducks and likes to say that the ducks are “the best unofficial mascots in college!”

Outside of work, Byrd enjoys all types of music, ethical philosophy, old cars, discussing current events, watching his favorite sports teams, and spending time with his family and friends.
