Professional Development
Two National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) Clock Hours offered for the morning session, which is free and open to the public. Lunch and afternoon session is open to those paying the registration fee.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Understand the interprofessional nature of expressive arts as developed at Appalachian.
- Understanding how the expressive arts are utilized in various health care settings.
- Explore ways that expressive arts can assist in transitional moments in human life.

About Sally Atkins
Dr. Sally Atkins is an expressive arts therapist, psychotherapist, licensed psychologist and poet. She is Professor Emerita of Human Development and Psychological Counseling at Appalachian State University where she and her colleagues founded the Expressive Arts Therapy Program and the Expressive Arts Collective. Her publications include Nature-Based Expressive Arts Therapy, Presence and Process in Expressive Arts Work, Picking Clean the Bones, Sourcebook in Expressive Arts Therapy as well as numerous book chapters and journal articles.
