Dr. Sarah Arrington Joins CAE as Instructional Technology Consultant

Appalachian State University’s Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) has a new team member who will support the Reich College of Education (RCOE) faculty. Dr. Sarah Arrington joined the team in April as an Instructional Technology Consultant and eLearning Specialist.

As a consultant, Arrington serves as the primary contact for faculty in the RCOE for assistance with the instructional design of their AsULearn course sites and provides support and training with the platform and other instructional technologies for digital learning. Additionally, she will assist the CAE with university-wide professional development and workshops focused on instructional technologies and other pedagogical approaches for online learning.

“I love to learn new things, which in part is what brought me to this new position in the CAE,” said Arrington. “I'm super excited to learn from all of you as well as share my expertise with you.”

For Arrington, the mission and vision of App State resonated with her core beliefs when it comes to providing quality education. “The focus on building community, which is essential for learning, and fostering a love for life-long learning in our students is what drew me here,” she noted.

Arrington earned a B.S. in chemical engineering with a biotechnology specialization from the University of Akron and a Ph.D. in physiology from SUNY Upstate Medical University.

Arrington is most excited about getting to know all of the faculty in the RCOE and seeing what exciting projects they have in the works. “I'm super excited about helping faculty build on the skills that they acquired over the past year with the forced move to online, to see what gems will continue to enhance their courses and the learning experience for their students,” she added.

When Arrington is not working or reading about instructional strategies, she loves being outdoors, specifically hiking, biking, and kayaking. She added, “I also like to work in my flower garden at home; it's a fierce battle between me and the deer, but I'm determined to win!”

She also loves spending time with her son, Elijah. “He does not share my love of science or the outdoors, but he does keep me well informed of what kids are into these days and the technologies they use to communicate with each other,” she noted.
