Dr. Terry McClannon Named Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Program Services

Dr. Terry McClannon has been named Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Program Services in Appalachian State University’s Reich College of Education (RCOE). His appointment began in July.

His primary responsibilities include:

  • overseeing all aspects of undergraduate and graduate student affairs in the college
  • coordinating with the James Center for Student Success and Advising on all activities related to recruitment and retention efforts, as well as all student support and success efforts
  • overseeing all aspects of the selection process for college scholarship recipients 
  • providing administrative oversight in review of curriculum proposals, curriculum changes, and new program development
  • developing and implementing of a college strategic plan
  • serving as the university educator licensure officer
  • monitoring and providing administrative oversight/management for office and classroom space and overall building maintenance

McClannon is a professor in the Department of Leadership and Educational Studies (LES) in the RCOE, where he has served as the chair of the department since 2014. He has been a member of the Appalachian State University community since 1992. Prior to joining the faculty in LES in 2008, he served as the Director of Technology Facilities for the RCOE. His current scholarship includes the exploration of community and presence in online learning environments. 

McClannon earned an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership, Ed.S. in Higher Education Administration, M.A. in Educational Media (Instructional Technology), and B.S. in Technology - Electronics with a minor in Computer Science all from Appalachian State University.
