Graduating Student Shoutout: Jean Carlos Garcia Reyes

Jean Carlos Garcia Reyes

Master of Arts, Reading Education

Tell us about your collegiate activities, your clubs and organizations, or your favorite memories.

Throughout my time in this master's program, my favorite memories have consisted of putting what we have learned into practice whether that be through Literacy Cast, critically analyzing real samples of student work, or engaging in the Reading Clinic. Through putting what we have learned into practice, I have been able to collaborate with many of my amazing peers, especially Ashlyn Quick. We make up the dream team and have learned so much together!

Share the names of your favorite professors or other mentors you'd like to thank (and why).

All of the reading education professors have left a tremendous impact on me as an educator, student, and overall person. My favorite professors have been Dr. Buchholz and Dr. Frye. The immense support, guidance, authenticity, and them showing how much they truly care have been so evident. I appreciate how they learn alongside us and push us to be the best we can be. I feel comfortable and encouraged to share my voice and that is something I want my own students to feel as well.

In a nutshell, what has App State meant to you?

To me, App State has meant learning, unlearning, collaborating, and taking on challenges.
