Two students majoring in teacher education at Appalachian’s Reich College of Education have been awarded scholarships from the Alpha Gamma chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International:
- Madison Lee of Charlotte, N.C., senior special education major
- Evangeline Nelson of Matthews, N.C., junior elementary education major
Education is what pushes Lee to be the best version of herself.
“I am committed to being that person who can make the smallest bit of a difference in one student’s life,” said Lee.
Lee is completing both the special education program and is taking reading education graduate courses through Appalachian’s Accelerated Admissions program, which allows students to begin work on a master’s degree as an undergraduate student.
Nelson discovered her love of teaching working in a free preschool called Tutu and Me on the island of Oahu, H.I. Her plans after graduating are to teach elementary education with a focus on STEM education and natural sciences.
“I am passionate about renewing the wonder of science through play,” said Nelson.
To apply for this scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:
- Female
- Graduates of a N.C. high school
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Enrolled in a teacher education degree program at Appalachian State University
The application is emailed to students from the RCOE Scholarship Office in the spring semester.
