Over the past academic year, the Reich College of Education (RCOE) has been engaged in a re-envisioning of its academic programs. The essential questions that guided this work focused on equitable workload, greater collaboration, and curricular alignment of programs.
“This re-envisioning of academic departments and programs will strengthen programs and help to build more intentional connections between program areas, and we are all looking forward to these new opportunities,” said Dr. Melba Spooner, Dean of the RCOE.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to all of our faculty and staff for their hard work, time, and feedback throughout this process,” she added.
As of July 1, 2023, the new organization of the college’s academic departments and programs are now as follows:
Department of Child Development, Literacy, and Special Education. Chaired by Dr. Woody Trathen, the literacy education, special education, child development birth through kindergarten, and family and child studies programs will be part of this department.
Department of Counseling, Family Therapy, and Higher Education. The marriage and family therapy, clinical mental health counseling, professional school counseling, higher education, and student affairs administration programs will be part of this department, and Dr. Amy Milsom will chair the department.
Department of Leadership and Educational Studies. Chaired by Dr. Shawn Ricks, the department will house our doctoral program and the faculty who teach the educational foundations and research courses.
Department of Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum. This department will include our elementary education, middle grades education, and curriculum specialist programs and will be chaired by Dr. Lisa Poling.
Department of Media, Career Studies, and Leadership Development. The school administration, library science, media technology and learning design, and career and technical education, including the workforce leadership and development concentration, will be part of this department, and Dr. Herb Brown will serve as interim chair for the 2023-2024 academic year.
