The ninth annual Women in Educational Leadership Symposium (WIELS) will be held virtually, Thursday, February 27, and Friday, February 28, 2025. This is rescheduled from October 2024 The symposium theme is Advancing the Leader Within: Building Capacity.
This year, WIELS will sponsor two keynote speakers and an invited panel:
- Dr. Deanna Townsend-Smith, Senior Director of the Dudley Flood Center for Educational Equity & Opportunity, will deliver the keynote address on Thursday, February 27, Leadership Journey - Moving the Impossible to Possible Starts with You.
- Dr. Lisa Mitchell, Associate Dean School of Education, University of North Carolina at Pembroke, will moderate a panel following the keynote address on Thursday, February 27, AI in Education.
- Amy Wartham, Director of Corporate Training and Executive Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, will deliver the keynote address on Friday, February 28, Establishing a Growth Mindset.
Additionally, there will be three concurrent sessions with six additional panels, critical conversations, and paper presentations throughout the two-day event.
WIELS is a partnership between faculty members in Appalachian State University's Reich College of Education and practicing educators. The partnership aims to equip women with pragmatic knowledge, skills, and dispositions that prepare them for success as educational leaders.
WIELS invites attendees from all sectors involved in educational leadership and current App State students.

This year, WIELS registration will be $100 for participants. Presenters, teachers and students will be asked to register with a reduced fee of $75.
