Staff Spotlight: Carol Proffitt

Carol Proffitt began working at Appalachian State University approximately 15 years ago; she joined the Reich College of Education (RCOE) community when the new building opened in August 2011.

Carol provides housekeeping services and so much more! On the third floor, where her workstation is located, Carol regularly offers snacks as well as encouragement to students, faculty, and staff. Of the students in the college, Carol said, “These are like my children.”

She explained that her own son was away at college for seven years, four at NC State followed by three at Syracuse for law school. During that time, she hoped that he had someone who was reaching out and providing encouragement.

“Law school and studying for the Bar Exam were hard,” she said.

Carol acknowledged that college is hard for kids, but she wants to let them know that “it’ll pay off.” Her goal is to provide a space where her "children" feel warm and welcome - and to smile!

“I figure if I smile and they smile, we are both are lifted up. I’m thankful every day for this job.”

Thanks to Carol, for all that she does to support RCOE students!
