Online Master's Adult Education Degree Program at Appalachian State University
Appalachian State University provides students with comprehensive learning opportunities on a scenic campus in the Blue Ridge Mountains. One of 17 campuses in the University of North Carolina System, App State enrolls about 19,000 students in classrooms with a 16-to-1 student-to-faculty ratio. Distance learners choose from several programs available on App State Online, including an MA in higher education.
The 36-credit, part-time program helps learners build professional competencies as higher education educators and administrators. The core examines research methods, American higher education, college and university teaching, and adult development and learning theories.
The online master's in adult education offers two, 24-credit concentrations: community college and university leadership and adult and developmental education. For both concentrations, a thesis is optional, but students who opt out of a thesis must complete six credits of graduate electives. All students must pass a comprehensive exam to graduate from the online master's in adult education.
Graduates work in areas such as academic advisement, admissions, student affairs, and faculty and staff development. Faculty deliver the program with a blend of synchronous and asynchronous coursework.
