Jimmy Kramer, originally from Youngstown, Ohio, graduated in 2010 with a M.A. in college student development, now student affairs administration. He completed his bachelor’s degree in geriatrics and gerontology, from The Ohio State University.
“I chose to come to Appalachian because of the people that I met through attending a Graduate Assistant Preview Program (GAPP) weekend. Whether it was the faculty, the staff, the students or the candidates I met during that experience, I fully believed Appalachian was the right place for me. I left campus that weekend knowing that if I came to Appalachian I would be supported and developed by individuals that were truly invested in my well-being, both personally and professionally.”
Currently, Kramer serves as a residence life coordinator at Appalachian State University.
“I oversee the day-to-day operations of my area, coordinate with maintenance and housekeeping partners, address the educational development of residents in our buildings and work to ensure the resident are supported through all personal and academic needs,” said Kramer.
Impacting Education in His Community
Kramer is making an impact on education in his community.
“Within my role, I aim to support all students where they are and provide opportunities or resources to them as they navigate their college experience,” said Kramer.
His department primarily focuses on its residents’ development.
“My staff and I work to address issues or concerns that our residents present to us. These can be as simple as study breaks throughout finals week to larger events dealing with mental health issues through partnering with the counseling center,” noted Kramer.
