The James Center for Student Success and Advising welcomes Justin Hites as one of its new academic advisors.
In his role, Hites will support students majoring in elementary education, middle grades education, and career and technical education.
The James Center, located in Appalachian State University’s Reich College of Education, works to recruit, advise, provide professional development, and retain teacher education majors during their tenure at App State to ensure success for a career in education.
Hites received a Bachelor of Arts degree in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in environmental education from the University of North Florida, in Jacksonville, Florida.
Previously, Hites was a coordinator of Environmental Education Programs at the University of North Florida Eco Adventure and the university program associate for the James Center.
When asked why he chose App State, Hites said, “I'm excited to join a university with such strong progressive goals towards sustainability, inclusivity, and meaningful, lifelong experiences.”
Hites is most excited about “joining an outstanding team to help future educators thrive in the pursuit of their career goals.”
His hobbies include hiking, cycling, writing and playing music. He also enjoys attending live music events.
He added, “It is not uncommon for me to sound off some very abstract bit of trivia that for some reason I committed to memory...comes in handy at trivia nights on occasion.”
