Once again this fall, the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA) brought 17 international educators to Appalachian State University. The Fulbright TEA Program spans across the United States, bringing educators from 60 participating countries to universities for a six-week immersive experience focusing on education.
On September 29, 2022, the Reich College of Education’s (RCOE) Appalachian Educators Club (App Ed) hosted a dinner allowing students an opportunity to meet with the Fulbright TEA Fellows to learn and discuss international education. Over 130 education students attended and shared their experiences in the American education system.
“Our students are teaching and learning at the same time in these conversations, so our hope was that everyone would walk away having expanded their perspective and added to their community of practice,” said Madison Goodwin, junior elementary education major and president of App Ed.
Students enjoyed hearing how the TEA Fellows manage their classrooms and the different perspectives regarding education in general. Students were also interested in learning about specific practices to implement in their classrooms and future careers.
Goodwin described herself as “feeling excited about all the ways that the conversations that were going on in the room were shaping future classrooms.”
Housed in the RCOE’s James Center for Student Success and Advising, App Ed is open to all education majors and provides students with opportunities for service and social engagement as well as professional development.
