The Reich College of Education (RCOE) presents “An Evening with North Carolina’s Teacher of the Year” professional development opportunity.

The event will feature Heather Smith, the 2024 Burroughs Wellcome Fund North Carolina Teacher of the Year.
Smith teaches eighth-grade math at Waynesville Middle School in the Haywood County Schools district. With eight years of experience, she has become a leading figure in education, known for her dedication to student growth and innovative teaching methods. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education K-6 from Western Carolina University and has additional certification in Middle Grades Mathematics (6-9). Smith is also a National Board Certified Teacher.
The programming will begin at 6:30 pm, and light refreshments will be served afterward. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be offered for current educators, and professional development credits will be offered for current students.
This professional development opportunity is also being sponsored by App State’s Office of Partnerships and Engagement, RCOE’s James Center for Student Success and Advising, and Appalachian Educators Club.
