Strategic Direction #1 – Creating the Transformational Educational Experience

  • Developed and opened the new James Center for Student Success and Advising (located on the first floor).
  • Hired RCOE Teacher Education Recruiter, Mrs. Octavia Little.  Housed in the James Center for Student Success and Advising.
  • Expanded Praxis Core support for all teacher education majors.
  • Professional Core Revision in progress.

Strategic Direction #2 – Advancing Knowledge and Addressing the Challenges of our Region, State, and World Through Creativity and Innovation

  • Supported faculty research ($6000 worth of grants disbursed summer 2018).
  • Opened the Appalachian Family Therapy Clinic.

Strategic Direction #3 – Engaging the State, Region, and World

  • Expanded Lucy Brock Child Development Lab School with a new Pre-K classroom at Cove Creek Elementary School.
  • Appalachian State University Academy at Middle Fork planning and implementation in progress.

Strategic Direction #4 – Embracing Diversity of Thought, Belief, and Community

  • Held Teaching Justice, Teaching Love events.
  • Offered Black Minds Matter Public Course.
  • Integrated participation in Inclusive Excellence Residency with Dr. Damon Williams.
  • Inclusive Curriculum Mapping in progress.

Strategic Direction #5 – Preserving Faculty and Staff Excellence

  • Held regular college-wide faculty meetings with faculty, student, organization, and academic program highlights.
  • Expanded RCOE Awards to include Staff and Administrator categories.
  • RCOE Year of Wellness 2018-2019 in progress.

Strategic Direction #6 – Building Responsive Infrastructure for a Sustainable Campus

  • Expanded RCOE sustainability efforts by establishing the RCOE Sustainability Committee.
  • Improved communication as evidenced by Connected.
  • Implemented an RCOE new faculty mentoring program. Coordinated and led by Dr. Karen Caldwell.
  • Review and restructuring of RCOE committees in progress.
