Steve and Judy James Scholarship
The Steve and Judy James Scholarship for Education is awarded to one incoming freshman each year who plans to pursue a career in teaching in North Carolina. Recipients are chosen based on academic achievement, leadership, community service, and financial need. The Steve and Judy James Scholarship is $5,000 each year and is renewable for four years. Recipients of the James Scholarship are required to participate in the Appalachian Community of Education Scholars (ACES) Residential Learning Community.
Judy James is an Appalachian alumna; she earned a B.S. in elementary education in 1969. The James Center for Student Success and Advising is named for the James'. Their philanthropic efforts reach across North Carolina, providing scholarships for teacher education and an endowment for the Appalachian Alumni Association.
