Open to students from all disciplines, App State’s Media Studies minor combines creativity and technology through hands-on projects that inspire personal expression and professional growth in an ever-changing digital landscape.
Housed in the Reich College of Education, the Media Studies Minor is a campus-wide program with courses located in the College of Education building on App State’s Boone campus. The building features a Mac-based Media Lab where enrolled students have access to Adobe Creative Cloud software (Premiere, Lightroom, Photoshop, and more) and can borrow digital SLR cameras, video cameras, microphones, audio recorders, lighting kits, and other production tools. Students also have access to a Green Screen Production Studio for creative video projects.
The Media Studies Minor is available to all undergraduate students—you can choose to complete the full minor or take individual classes that align with your interests. The program prepares students with the technical, aesthetic, and critical skills to work with a range of media (visual, auditory, multimedia) across genres including documentary, fiction, and narrative.
Designed to complement any major, the Media Studies Minor develops flexible and adaptable skill sets that support both professional goals and personal creativity. Whether you’re majoring in communication, education, business, art, or another field, Media Studies adds a creative, media-rich dimension to your academic experience.
