The Department of Leadership, Library and Information Science, and Research at Appalachian State University prepares traditional and nontraditional students to assume educational leadership roles in community colleges, universities, public schools, public libraries and related educational settings through active scholarship, reflection, professional discourse and interdisciplinary programs of study based on the integration of theory and practice.

Our mission is to be committed to advancing students’ roles as leaders in a variety of educational and professional settings. We foster critically-engaged, reflexive inquiry – informed by empirical and conceptual practices – within inclusive, equitable, and democratic learning spaces.
