How to Apply for Licensure After Graduation:
After your degree is officially conferred, you may apply online for your NC Educator License through the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) website.
Please make sure to upload these documents with your application:
- Official Appalachian State University Transcript: Your transcript should show the date your degree was awarded.* You can request it from the Registrar's Office by following the instructions on their website under "Ordering a Transcript."
- Test Scores: Please include any edTPA, Praxis II, and/or Pearson scores.
- Work Authorization: Provide this only if you are not a U.S. citizen.
- Approved Education Program (Form V): This is usually not required, except in rare cases, such as speech pathology. NCDPI will contact you if they need a Form V.
Applications must be completed within 30 days of initiation. If not, you may be required to submit a new application.
Licensure Fees: For a current list of Licensure Application Fees, please visit: NCDPI Licensure Fees.
Processing Time: NCDPI typically processes applications within six to eight weeks.
*Please Note: You may submit your licensure application only after your degree has been conferred and your official transcripts are available.
Degree conferral dates at App State are:
- Fall: January 31
- Spring: May 31
- Summer: August 31
