Program Pathways
Traditional, On-Campus Program
A full-time, in-person experience designed for students beginning their teaching careers. Coursework includes general education, core education courses, and a full semester of student teaching.
You’ll progress from tutoring and practicum experiences to a Block II field placement (five weeks of full-time teaching), followed by a semester-long student teaching experience in diverse classroom settings.
Part-Time, Evening Program
For individuals who already hold an associate’s degree or are working in education, App State offers a part-time, hybrid program with evening and online coursework.
- Designed to be completed in 2.5 years
- Combines online and in-person learning
- Includes a semester of student teaching
- Leads to eligibility for an Initial Professional Educator’s License (K–6)
Coursework Overview
Your course of study includes:
- 44 semester hours of general education
- 49 semester hours in major requirements
- 17 semester hours in professional education
- 9 semester hours in a secondary area of concentration
- 2 semester hours of electives

Admission to Teacher Education
Before formal admission to the Reich College of Education, students must:
- Earn a grade of “C” or better in required professional education courses
- Complete an admission request form
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress

The Elementary Education Graduate Certificate is an online licensure program designed for individuals seeking an A-level (initial) teaching license in elementary education.
You’ll study with faculty who specialize in preparing teachers for today’s diverse, technology-enhanced classrooms. This 17-month program emphasizes both content mastery and pedagogical expertise to help you meet the needs of 21st-century learners.
