Dr. Ashley Whitehead received her B.S. in secondary mathematics education from Oakland City University and her M.S. degree in applied mathematics from Indiana State University. Prior to returning to North Carolina State University for her Ph.D. in mathematics education, she taught mathematics and elementary education courses as a tenure-track instructor at both Austin Peay State University and the University of Southern Indiana.

In addition to her work as a faculty member, she has led a countywide mathematics professional development program in North Carolina, remains active in various professional organizations, and has collaborated to publish articles in both mathematics and science.

Her teaching and research interests include preparing preservice teachers, with a focus on developing their mathematical knowledge for teaching.

In 2023, as part of the college's Mentoring Guild, she received the Community of Practice Award.
