Dr. Peijuan Cao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Child Development, Literacy, and Special Education at Appalachian State University. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of Florida, where she studied reading and literacy education, and an M.Ed. from the University of Missouri.

Her research interests include elementary literacy instruction and assessment, literacy practices of multilingual learners, culturally responsive teaching, and reading teacher preparation. In addition to presenting at various national and international conferences, she has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, including Reading and Writing Quarterly, Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacy, Linguistics and Education, Written Communication, and Journal of English for Academic Purposes.
